The EKG showed a redundant mitral valve, moderate mitral regurgitation, and a dilated left atrium. Since the left atrium is enlarged, this would be a “Substandard” life insurance offer. The actual rating would depend on your age and the amount of left atrial enlargement.

If you have moderate to severe mitral valve prolapse, you’ll want to show a demonstrated track record of stability over a number of years (preferably 5+ years) with well-documented EKG follow-ups.


Consider Guaranteed Issue Life Insurance with Mitral Valve Prolapse

While in most circumstances, it is possible to be approved for life insurance with mitral valve prolapse, you still have situations that can make it much more difficult to obtain traditional life insurance.

Typically, this will occur when you have other health conditions in addition to the mitral valve prolapse.
