Life Insurance with Hepatitis C

Life Insurance with Hepatitis CAt Rootfin, we’ve helped many people obtain life insurance that have been declined because of Hepatitis C.  In all of these instances, it’s because the agent recommended the wrong company.

Not every insurance company is the same. Sure, they all sell the same products, but some companies are better than others for applicants with Hepatitis C.

There are a lot of insurance companies out there that view certain high-risk applicants more favorably than other companies. It’s important that you find the perfect company for your specific condition.

Obtaining life insurance with Hepatitis C comes down to 2 factors:

  1.  How much damage has the liver sustained?

  2.  Is the disease in remission?

The best Hepatitis C life insurance rates will come to those who have demonstrated a sustained remission with minor or no damage of the liver.  In these cases,  STANDARD life insurance rates are achievable.

For those whose Hepatitis C is not progressing but are showing minor symptoms and minor liver damage, you will be considered a substandard risk – but still insurable!  In these cases, to get the most favorable rate, having a recent liver biopsy that shows only minor liver damage will help your rates tremendously.  A liver biopsy within the last  5 years will suffice, although the more recent, the better.

Here is the information your agent needs to know:

  • Date of Diagnosis

  • Acute Viral Hepatitis C, Chronic Persistent Hepatitis C or Chronic Active Hepatitis C?

  • What are your most current liver enzymes? (if you don’t know them, are they under control?)

  • Are you taking any medications? (such as Interferon or Ribavirin) If so, quantity and frequency?

  • Do you consume any alcohol? (type, frequency, quantity)

  • How frequently does your physician monitor your liver functions? (annually, semi-annually etc.)

  • What studies have been done to diagnose/treat the condition? (liver biopsy, CT scan, MRI etc.)and what were the results? (normal, abnormal)

  • Any other underlying health issues? (needing life insurance for diabetics?)

It’s important to have all of this information when contacting an agent.  Armed with these details, an agent experienced in Hepatitis C life insurance underwriting can find the company that will give you the most favorable rate.   If an agent doesn’t ask you these questions, then choose another one who can speak the Hepatitis C life insurance language.

Your pre-existing conditions aren’t the only thing that the company is concerned with. Aside from specific questions about your Hepatitis C, the insurance company is also going to ask general questions about your health. After you finished the initial paperwork, the insurance company will send out a paramedic to complete a basic health exam. During this health exam, the paramedic is going to take your blood pressure, heart rate, take a blood sample, and a urine sample. The results from the medical exam are going to impact on your rates and chances of being accepted.

Because the medical exam is going to affect your life insurance premiums, it’s important that you focus on your health and improve it as much as possible. Spend some time losing weight through diet and exercise. Carry extra weight tends to mean that you’ll have higher cholesterol, higher blood pressure, and raise your risks of having severe health complications. If you need high risk life insurance, your monthly premiums are going to be higher, assuming that the company even accepts your application. But even if you are needing life insurance if you’re overweight, we can help with this. Don’t let this keep you from getting the insurance you deserve.

Using an independent agent is one of the best ways to secure affordable life insurance, regardless of your health. Independent agents don’t work for one specific company, instead they represent dozens of companies and can get you the lowest quotes. Our agents are knowledgeable of the insurance marketplace and can connect you with the company that is going to give you the best rates with Hepatitis C.

Sure, you can skip the agent and do the search yourself, but you could spend hours on the phone or on the internet researching different insurance companies. You will answer the same questions over and over again. If you make the wrong choice, your application can be declined or you could be facing massive monthly premiums. Instead of wasting your time calling different companies, let us bring the best quotes to you.

If you’ve been turned down in the past, don’t think that you can’t get the insurance coverage that you and your loved ones deserve. We can find the perfect life insurance policy for you, regardless of your health or pre-existing conditions. Not having life insurance is one of the worst things that you can do for your family.

If you were to pass away tomorrow, your family would be left with all of your unpaid expenses. Your loved ones will be responsible for paying for your mortgages, car payments, credit cards, and every other debt that you have. For a grieving family, all of this debt can make this difficult time even worse.

We recommend using our life insurance prequalification service if you’re considering life insurance with Hepatitis C.

Before you start applying for life insurance, it’s important that you calculate how large of a policy you’ll need. There are several different factors that you should consider when looking for a life insurance policy. As we mentioned earlier, the main purpose of life insurance is to give your family the money they need to pay off all of your expenses that you leave behind. Sit down and add up all of your debts that your loved ones would have to pay for. You might be surprised at just how much debt that you have.

The other goal of life insurance is to replace your income. If you are one of the main income earners in your family, then your family would suffer serious financial loss if you were to pass away. Would your family be able to recover the lost income? Life insurance will give your family enough money to get through this heart time without struggling because of your lost income.

There is no “bull’s-eye” number for your life insurance policy, but most financial advisors suggest getting around ten times your annual salary. This might sound a little excessive, but you want to ensure that your loved ones will have enough funds to get through that difficult time of life.

If you want to start the life insurance buying process, simply fill out the quote form on the side or give us a call. Our agents will be happy to answer any questions that you have about life insurance and connect you with the perfect policy.

I have hep c, I’m 60 years old and I’ve been clean and sober for 191/2 years. I don’t smoke or drink. I’ve had a biopsy 10 years ago and had some fibrosis. My levels are just a little above normal. I do work and I’m in great physical shape.
