It was recently announced by the LIFE Foundation that Laker's forward and reality star, Lamar Odom, will be the spokesperson in September for Life Insurance Awareness Month. Odom's story will be broadcast nationally on TV and radio PSA's.
Most sports fans have heard of Lamar Odom and if you're not a sports fan, you might know of him via "Khloe and Lamar" on E! Entertainment TV. What many don't know is that Lamar credits life insurance as giving him the foundation to move on his life.
When Odom was 12 years old, his mother passed away from Colon Cancer at the young age of 35. Fortunately, his mother was wise enough to own an individual life insurance policy which provided for his education and kept him in school. Odom says:
"I'm sure my mom didn't think she would die at age 35, but that didn't stop her from doing the responsible thing and buying life insurance. Her wise decision gave me the foundation to move on in my life, and played a big role in making me the person I am today. When I began my pro career, one of the first things I did was buy life insurance to make sure that my loved ones would always be taken care of".
It's refreshing to see sports stars advocate for issues they believe in. We're looking forward to hearing more of Odom's story in September.
